untitled

I was born on the thirtieth of July 1991, in Thomson Hospital in Singapore. I have lived in Singapore ever since and I go to school at Raffles Institution. I live with my father, mother and two brothers. From primary two to now, two activities have been much the focus of my life - my studies and swimming.

My name is Lee Zi Yao. I went to four different primary schools- Yumin, Haig Boys, Ngee Ann, and Tao Nan. Now I can confidently say that my 3 years from primary 4 to 6 in Tao Nan Gifted Education Program were the best years of school life I have ever had so far. I still miss those years very much now, though many memories of those times have faded in the stress of today's busy secondary school life. After scoring well in my Primary School Leaving Examinations, I entered my current school, RI.

I am a happy-go-lucky person. Not many things can make me very sad for long, and I am not as concerned about some things, like marks, as others. With adults such as teachers, I have always been most polite and respectful, and it never occurred to me to be very friendly with them like some of my friends. Perhaps it was a strict sense of propriety and tradition.

I am outspoken and reserved at the same time. With people I know, I am loud and energetic, the more so if I know them better. With them I am willing to show my true self and talk. With people I am not familiar with or I feel do not want to talk to me, I am aloof and reserved, not talking to them but at the same time wishing to reach out.

Life is... a phase to me. Though there are many happy things to enjoy in life, there are still many unpleasant things and all the stress. It is a phase that everyone has to go through and will end, but one we can choose to do our best in or not. Sometimes things do not go as we think or wish, but we still have to live it to the best. The main joy in my life is swimming and reading, and those are the ways I de-stress from school.

In the year 2017, I would be a doctor and still living happily here in Singapore. I hope to have been able to get scholarship for my medical studies. But for the moment, I am content with that. I have many other dreams, all different and too amazing to be realistic; and you may call me a dreamer, but as the saying goes, "people who don't dream don't have much". I dream.

I have many dreams for the future. But now I live in Singapore as a student, as I always have been. And I am content for now. I hope to live out this phase as best as I can, and have no regrets. Dare to dream, and dare to try your best all the time.
